Well, I'm back in LA after joining the masses at the largest comic book convention in the US: Comic-Con. This was my second year attending the Con & I had such a blast from start to finish (including the 3+ hour drive to San Diego;o). The highlight being the Cartoon Voices Panel on Saturday where I spoke alongside Phil LaMarr, Chuck McCann, Keith Ferguson, Wally Wingert & Greg Berger about being a voiceover artist. It was an honor to share the stage with such amazing talent & to share my passion with 2,500 people! The event was hosted by Mark Evanier & Earl Krauss & was non-stip laughs.

Here's a short clip of our vocal introductions. You'll hear the Blood Elf, Miss Naughty & some obscure zombie I did recently:

My Comic-Con travel companion Keith Ferguson (a.k.a. Bloo from "Foster's Home of Imaginary Friends) kept me laughing the entire ride down & back. And of course we found time to consume copious amounts of calories, mainly in the form of sugar molecules.

My dear friends Edith & Jer were kind enough to let me crash with them in their swanky room over at The Ivy in the Gaslamp District. When we weren't checking out panels or on the floor, we soaked up the sun by the pool. In addition to being an absolute doll, Edith is also a very talented writer who pens young adult novels. Oh, and we're the same height!

Another highlight of the Con was running into so many Emersonians! I can't tell you how cool it is to reconnect with people I knew from our Boston days. A few faces I was thrilled to run into:

John Connelly, now working at Game Stop.

Opus Moreschi who was on The Writers Room: Writing Prime Time Animated Comedy panel.

And my dear friends Andrew Seidel from G4 & Tom Menino from Meteor Games.

(Yeah, that's me in the middle)

In addition to running into old friends, I joined a hip-hop group (actually, just some of the cats from the Comic Strip Live Panel).

Perhaps MC Frontalot will ask us to open for him?

The Barenaked Ladies pondered what they would do "if they had a million dollars" and I decided to find out what I would do. And the answer is: Give it to Thurop.

And that just about wraps it up for the Comic-Con rewind. See you next year!

England, June 2008 - The family feature "Alondra Smiles" was a top winner at the Heart of England International Film Festival, giving the movie its third festival recognition so far this year.

The Academy of Media, Recording, Interactive, Television & Stage Arts (AMRITSA) and the festival's special selection committee of seasoned filmmakers and representatives from The Prem Group Ltd. honored "Alondra Smiles" with Best International Feature Film.

"I'm very thankful to God for having a great cast, crew and the never ending support of family and friends," said Conchita Nora Villa, director of the film, upon receiving the recognition at the awards ceremony.

"Alondra Smiles" also garnered the top prize, the Directors Gold Award, at the International Family Film Festival in Hollywood and earlier this month took home the Audience Award at the Reel Rasquache Film Festival in Los Angeles.

Villa Media Productions, along with an up-and-coming cast, brings this heartwarming story to life. In "Alondra Smiles," we meet Alondra, a fourteen-year-old who's planning to have a very special 15th birthday celebration, and her spoiled cousin Tatiana, who wants to ruin Alondra's plans.

Alondra (Natalie Gomez) has a positive attitude towards life despite having lost her parents to an accident seven years ago; she is grateful for her loving grandparents (Jose V. Villa and Josefina Ortega-Villa), whom she now lives with. Alondra befriends Armando (Anthony Marquez), a nice guy she met while working at her uncle's restaurant. Unfortunately, Alondra's manipulative step-cousin Tatiana (Paloma Rodriguez) wants Armando as her date for her debutante party, and with the help of her sidekicks she keeps Armando and Alondra apart while making them believe that she's just trying to help.

Director Conchita Nora Villa says, "My family and I wanted to produce a movie that an entire family can watch together. It was also important for me to portray Latinos in a positive, non-stereotypical way."

Ms. Villa's credits include working on "Selena" and "Mi Familia/My Family" as well as producing various independent projects. After over 10 years of experience in the various facets of the film industry, she decided to team up with her brother, Producer/Writer Juan Francisco Villa, and her family to produce and finance "Alondra Smiles." This film is Ms. Villa's directorial debut.

"Alondra Smiles" has also been selected to the International Film Festival in South Africa (October 2008) and the Kids First! Film Festival. "Alondra Smiles" is currently looking for distribution. Trailer, photos and further information are available at www.villamediaprod.com and www.myspace.com/alondrasmiles.

Villa Media Productions is a family-owned and operated company. It is currently developing an "Alondra Smiles" television pilot.
In the midst of an epidemic of teen suicides, filmed and posted to the internet, and while adults, newscasters, analysts and law enforcement officials try to bring order through moral condemnation and legislation, fifteen year old Rachael seeks her own answers to the mysteries and vagaries of life through a series of video blogs threatening her own suicide if no one helps her uncover the truths she seeks. Her videos attract the attention of a pedophile and an FBI agent and the race is on to see who can get to Rachael first before she adds herself to a long list of statistics. World Full of Nothing is the first feature film from writer/director Jesse Pomeroy. It stars Bella Nelson in a stand-out debut performance along with Angela J. Anderson, Markus Innocenti, Oliver Cowley, Sandy Greenwood, Alicyn Packard and Hannah Cowley. The film was produced by Jesse Pomeroy and Markus Innocenti and is currently being edited by Jules Portman at Mission Post.

Los Angeles, June 2008 - The family feature "Alondra Smiles" was the audience favorite at the Reel Rasquache Film Festival, which was held on the campus of California State University, Los Angeles over the weekend. "Alondra Smiles" took home the Audience Choice Award; the film also recently garnered the top prize, the Directors Gold Award, at the International Family Film Festival in Hollywood, and it is nominated as Best First Film USA at the International Film Festival England-UK (IFFE), which will be held June 9-13 in England.
