Intro Welcome to Alicyn’s Wonderland, I’m your host Alicyn Packard. Join us as we journey through the looking glass and down the rabbit hole into the wild and wonderful world of animation and video games. Hey, do a girl a favor and please subscribe to this podcast, and go on iTunes and leave us a good review. If you like the show, please help spread the word, it really helps us to get heard by more people. Thanks so much. Alicyn Happy Wednesday. If I was very clever, I would have written a wonderland song for you guys. Tonight, waiting for connection. Hey guys. Hey Kelly. Hey Hope! Alicyn Thank you so much for joining. Hope is tonight's guest. She is a voice actress. She stars in the animated series Boss Baby for DreamWorks. She plays the mom. She's also one of the Winx girls, which is amazing. And Hope is the girl of many voices who started the voice actors network about a decade ago, and that's how we originally met. She's also in the Hey Arnold jungle movie, but today it is all about the music. So I'm going to go ahead and invite Hope for you. Let's see. Hey, Hope. Hey, Jonathan. How's it going my sweets? Hope Are you talking to me? Alicyn Yes! Hope Are you talking to me? Alicyn I'm talking to you, dude. I'm talking to you. Hope It's so interesting being on the other side to your show. It's lovely. And this is my, I have to say, this is my first live. Alicyn We popped your live cherry. Well, welcome. Hope I have. I popped my live cherry. I like your little fire. You have a little fire going in the background? Alicyn There's a fire. I mean, you know, it's like the fireside chats, you know, where you just gather around the fire. Hope Nice and cozy. Alicyn And you, you just look like you're in a gorgeous stage. Hope If you could only see, well, you could see, maybe later I'll treat you to the to the domain, the concept. Alicyn You'll give us the full tour. Hope You throw on a, we call it throw schmatta on anything and you've got like, you know a nice backdrop. Alicyn Oh girl, that is not just any schmatta, that is the red velvet schmatta. It's gorgeous. Hope Red velvet schmatta, exactly. It's nice. Alicyn It's a tactile. This is not just an Ig live, it's like a. Hope It's totally tech. I can't, yeah, Ig live. It's too pixelated, and yeah. Alicyn I so good to see your face, honey. How's it, how's your week going? Hope My week is going good. Yeah. Just, you know, doing it. Alicyn Absolutely. Hope Like you are, you know. Alicyn Yeah, you know. Hope The auditions, the life, yeah. Alicyn The parenting. Hope The parenting Alicyn Trying to squeeze in rehearsal time for the show. Which, I'm so glad because I, to be completely honest, since COVID hit, it's just been work, family, and you know, just trying to keep sane, which has included more downtime and not necessarily carving out a ton of time to practice and rehearse. I think I did play a couple songs one time, but you know, on a show, but pretty much haven't picked up the guitar much, so. Hope Are you saying there was some dust? Alicyn Yeah, it was such a great opportunity. Hope There's some dust? There's some dust on the guitar? On my, mine has some dust too. I know, it's weird cause it's like you think oh, we're, you know, we all have, you think you have more time? Alicyn Yeah. Hope But it's like, I don't feel like I have any more time, during this time we've been in, you know, it's because what we do is go in our little studios and just do our work and audition. So, you know. Alicyn Which we're grateful for. Hope Which we're grateful for. Alicyn Is Boss Baby, now you guys just finished season 4 of Boss Baby, right? Hope Season 4, right. So we don't know what's going on. Alicyn Anything in the works? Hope We're not at liberties, but who knows? Who knows, you know? Alicyn Yeah, well. Hope The movies coming out, which we're not in, but you know, it is coming out soon, so, that's good. Alicyn You know, movies mean TV shows, so, and your work with the mom is just great. I love it. We had JP Karliak, who's Boss Baby on the show, a couple months ago as well. So that was great. Hope He is so amazing, yeah. Alicyn He is so amazing. So yeah, I mean, who, do you want to start us off tonight or would you like to? Hope I mean, I am honored to start us off on my debut in the Alicyn's Wonderland musical lounge. And, it's. Alicyn We do need some kind of snappy, snappy tunes. Hope Funny you should say that, no, yes. snappy would be great. But I have my own little snaps. I've got my little percussion so, I'm gonna do a song. That's, that's kind of, it's like my, my theme, you know? I find myself saying this a lot. So I had to write a song about it. Okay, here we go. Alicyn Okay, I'm intrigued. Hope (In song) Back in my day A cup of coffee was a dollar. We didn't walk around with water. We weren't in such a hurry. Back in my day, I lived for going to the mall. Hope What? Alicyn Just saying. Hope Oh, haha. Hope (In song) I was kinda lonely, hello? Tips were for street performers only. Back in my day, I couldn't wait for the mail. The kind that came in a letter. I'd wait around all day for a call, oh, the phone was attached to the wall. Back in my day, I'd listen to the same old record, memorize a song for hours long, so much time to kill, parents paying my bills. We started school after Labor Day, what I couldn't afford went on layaway. My hair didn't look right. My clothes didn't fit right. I was an awkward site. Back in my day. We only watched 3 TV stations. We never took “Staycations." The guys I liked didn’t like me back. This was way before Prozac. Back in my day, we never wore seat belts, we never thought about our health, we sat in cars way too hot, smoked pot, somehow never got caught. Back in my day, we played games on a board. People sold things door to door. Paid for anything with a check, no one had credit card debt. Back in my day, everyone read the paper. We all knew every neighbor. Computers were the future thing. Jewelry wasn’t called “bling.” We started school after Labor Day, what I couldn’t afford went on layaway. My hair didn't looked right. My clothes didn’t fit right. I was an awkward site. Back in my day. Alicyn Wooooh! Yeah! Hope Thank you very much. Alicyn You guys, give hope some love. You see that heart button down there in that corner? hit that heart button, yo. Hope Because you know, we don't have the the audience to see, but I I feel you out there. So thank you guys and thank you, Alicyn. Alicyn We're making extra loud noises cause we're. Hope Alicyn, you're my, you're my captive audience. You're like right there. I'm like, yeah. Alicyn Yeah, it's kinda great being on this side of the glass cause you're like, Oh, yeah. I'm like the visual audience. Hope Yeah. Alicyn Too bad. Um, there is that delay. Cause yeah, I was clapping and tapping along hopefully I wasn't throwning off your beat. Hope No, I was like, Oh my god, there's a technical difficulty. Like, you know, we're so used to that. There's a technical, anyhow. All right. Alicyn I have so many questions about that song, though. I mean, you know, just first of all, you didn't carry around water? Hope No, that's, because some of us are older than, back in the days, when I went to school, and literally, nobody carried water. Are you kidding? That's like, I remember I had a roommate, back in the 80s. And she like said, Oh, I have to drink water for like dietary reasons. I'm like, what do you mean like you're not a biker, like bikers have water, right? Alicyn Yeah. Hope You're not a biker. But it was so bizarre and then all of a sudden, what like Evian came out and like every actor, everybody was like walking around with water, and I'm like, Oh my god, I actually need water, like we need it. Alicyn Yeah, it's actually, yeah, it's healthy, so. Hope It's a healthy thing, so, yeah. Alicyn And now we obsess about water, so I think that, yeah, that song, I love that song. Hope Cheers, cheers, water. Alicyn Cheers. Oh, yeah, I know. I don't have my water. Hope Water break everybody, water break. Hydrate. So, you're gonna entertain me now. Alicyn Back in my day. Okay, so this song is called Bigger Heart you know, I'm like trying to bring the guitar in, but it is cropped so tightly, I don't know if I'm able to make that happen. So just know that I swear there's a guitar. So this song is called Bigger Heart. If you haven't seen the music video for it, check it out. It's fully animated, it is so cute. Um, yeah, there we go. Alicyn (In song) I'm gonna build myself a bigger heart, so you can come and live with me. But you gotta make me one little promise babe, not to let it go empty. After the storm, the wind, the lightning, and rain. Can I build a heart to withstand all the pain? I'm making a shelter for two, with some scraps of paper and a bit of glue. That's how I build myself a bigger heart, won't you come and live with me? And if this heart can't hold the weight, and tears a hole that lets in the day. I'd take a morgage out upon my soul and I'll fix it up with paper mache. After the storm, the wind, the lightning, and rain. Can I build a heart to withstand all the pain? I'm making a shelter for two, with some scraps of paper and a bit of glue. That's how I build myself a bigger heart, won't you come and live with me? After the storm, the wind, the lightning, and rain. Can I build a heart to withstand all the pain? I'm making a shelter for two, with some scraps of paper and a bit of glue. That's how I built myself a bigger heart, won't you come and live with me? I'm gonna build myself a bigger heart, oh, won't you come and live with me? Baby, oh won't you come and live with me? Sweetheart, won't you come and live with me? Hope Oh. I love it. Beautiful. I keep hearing like, I was like, I hear like Dolly Parton. Like I could hear her singing your song. You know, she'll be like, oh. I could hear it. Alicyn Should I have my people call, contact Dolly? Hope I think, Dolly is pretty, you know, I've heard she's, she's awesome and open. I think she'd do it. Why not? Alicyn We'll get Dolly on the show. Hope Get Dolly on the show. She's not doing anything. She only writes a song a day, I heard. Alicyn Oh, jeez. That's the life, though. I mean, you know, you don't have anything else to do? Hope She's amazing. No, she does a lot. But she also somehow fits a song a day. Um, that was beautiful. I love that song. And I hear the harmony. Like I'm dying to do the harmony with you. But there's that delay. So it's like. Alicyn You know what? Our next show will have to be live. So. Hope We're gonna have to do it live, will be. Absolutely. Alicyn So my son's a big fan of our Winx Club. Do you want to talk just for a second about Winx Club? Hope My God. I love him. He's, so he likes those those girls in those little outfits, huh? Alicyn Yeah, I know. Hope No wonder he's a fan. They do, they're a little skimpy. And then my character Sonna lived under the sea, a sea creature. And I just remember she, she was, it was like a lot of fun, years ago. But I remember the voice. And I remember, just like I said the the outfits are definitely revealing and free, you feel very free, the characters, and they're adorable. Alicyn But you didn't wear that too? Hope To get into character, I always wear what I'm wearing. So, absolutely, it was just a dream come true. No, but it was fun. Alicyn And now they're making a live action movie. Hope Oh my god, I didn't even know. Thank you for telling me. I had no idea. Wow, cool. So is James Cameron? Alicyn What was that? Hope Is James Cameron directing it? Because, it's a lot of sea. Alicyn I think it's just announced at this point. But Let's Talk Cartoons posted about it. So you could go on there to find it. Hope I'll go and find out. Alicyn You could use the Googles, but um, so tell us about your next song. Hope Oh, my next song I think I'm looking at I'm like, I think I'm gonna do. Alicyn Let me check my setlist. Hope I'm like, I know. I only have four. I think, I was gonna try something new. Um, which is always scary, but you know you got to do, you got to do a new song, you always have to, and I just wrote this pretty recently after my momma passed away. So, that's part of life, part of life but you, it's hard, but you got to write music about it. So I always, everything inspires something. So, um, part of it was inspired by her. So that's the song. It is, alright, here it goes. Hope (In song) Every time I see your face, I am missing your embrace, and I cry, part of me dies. Your heart was always out of reach, was I what you meant to teach, no matter how I cry, I couldn't say goodbye. Made me feel so good, no one else ever could love me from the inside, but kept me on the outside. Beating out the emptiness, maybe I am just impressed, I close my eyes, how hard I try. I see a bird and think of you, the ocean fills your eyes so blue. I push them far behind, all of my crazy times. You saved my life, I hope you call, you keep to me when I was low, then you left so you could grow, took me years to ever forgive you. You visit me when I am dreaming, the only place that now has meaning, I want your hand in mine, it will be right this time cause you will always be that special part of me. Hope Thank you. Alicyn I didn't know that was about your mom. Hope Well, it was inspired, it's not completely, it's like the jumping off point. And then the other thing was my dad inspired. Thank you. Thanks. Alicyn Thank you for sharing. It is funny that we are the only ones able to audibly clap. It's like, what is the sound of one person clapping? Well, it's this. Hope It's better than no one clapping. Hope It's better than no one clapping. Oh, yay. Thank you Michael. Hope And the hearts are awesome. Alicyn It's I know, we appreciate the love guys. Um, so the next song that I'm going to play actually is, because we played a song about your mom, I'm gonna play a song that I wrote for my son. I think I wrote the song when he was about one year old. Hope This is on your CD, isn't it? Alicyn Yeah. Hope I love this song, I know. Love this song. Hope I did this for you. You know, it's like, it when you have a child, it just breaks you open and it breaks you in so many ways, and you really understand, you come to terms with your own mortality, and morality, but especially your mortality because it really makes the whole circle of life just abundantly clear. So this song is called Tiny Hands, Tiny Heart. I'm not sure if this was the one I sent you, Jeff. I probably, I mean, that's what I think. Alicyn (In song) You rest your cheek upon my chin. Tiny hands, tiny heart beating so fast. Each breath you take, you're growing up, hummingbird. I want to make it last, but you can't hold on, oh the moment is gone, every sunrise has a new setting sun. I never knew time, til the day you were born. Oh, so blue home. I didn't know what to expect, how I changed, how I needed to dig deeper. And what I thought would be okay, and how time would just keep slipping through my fingers. But you can't hold on, oh the moment is gone, every sunrise has a new setting sun. I never knew time, til the day you were born. Oh, so blue home. Now my tomorrow's belong to you, and everything still's so new. So just keep searching for the truth and let the circle pull you through cause tomorrow belongs to you. And now you're taking your first steps, hold my hand, I know you won't forever. I'm letting go and breathe again, though I try to leave the world a little better. But you can't hold on, oh the moment is gone, every sunrise has a new setting sun. I never knew time, til the day you were born. Oh, so blue home. Now my tomorrow's belong to you, and everything's still so new. So just keep searching for the truth, and let the circle pull you through, cause tomorrow belongs to you and everything's still so new, so just keep searching for the truth, and let the circle pull you through, cause tomorrow belongs to you. Hope Beautiful. Beautiful. I love that song. Again, I hear the harmonies, I want to sing with you. And I hear Jewel doing that song. Alicyn Let's get her on. Hope Because she'll be available. She used to live in her car so why can't she do a song by somebody else. Alicyn You know one of the first songs I learned on the guitar, actually in high school, my friend Sarah from high school is on the stream right now. I don't know if you remember it's like, do you remember (In song) Dreams last so long even after you're gone. So if that could be, she's definitely an inspiration to me. Hope Oh, I hear it. I hear it in that. Now let me ask you this, that song, has your son like, does he, does he know that song? Is he like, Oh, momma, I love that song. Or how does he feel about it? Alicyn Yeah. He, he does like it, that when he was a little baby and we were recording the album, I should do a compilation, he would always be like, more album, more album, more. He used to do sign language and like this is like mostly be like more album, more album. And he would just always be in the car. And so he would listen to it in the car and it would help him fall asleep. So I think it's, I guess that's a good thing. Hope That's a really good thing. Alicyn It's soothing, right? Mom's voice is like soothing but yeah, you know, he wasn't like yay, and he's still five so he's, he might even be watching from the room. I don't know. Hope He doesn't have that opinion of like, yeah, cause because I was, I think I mentioned like my kid, who's 14. I wrote him a song called My Little Gingy because he has you know, he's a gingy, they call him gingy or gingys or whatever. Alicyn Gingers? With red hair? Hope Ginger. Because he has red hair. And so I wrote him as song called My Little Gingy. And I used to sing it all the time. And then one day, about like about five years ago, he's like, Mom, I hate that song. Don't you ever sing that song in my presence again. If you do, I'm gonna, just be like, if I see it on a CD, cause I have, I have it on my CD. I'm like, Oh my gosh, I'm hiding my CDs because it's such a sweet song. And he has such an embarrassment about it. Because you know when you're a teen. Alicyn Oh my goodness. Do you think that that is a sign? Did you see who just joined the stream? Hope Oh my God. Gingersnaps. Alicyn Gingersnaps. Hope Oh my God, Gingersnap. That's so bizarre. Alicyn That is just absolutely. Ginger. we were just talking about a song Hope wrote about her son who's a ginger and you popped on this stream. Hope Yeah, it's just funny. So someday, hopefully, when he's older, out of the teen stage, he'll be like, Mom, you remember that song? Like, or maybe he just won't care. Alicyn Your son, Sam's like kind of a big deal, right? I mean, he's like, starred in several animated series, he has his own, he's a youtuber. Hope Yeah, he's very big. It, no, I mean, he's not big, but he's worked a lot, but he, so he's worked a lot, but he's still, you know, he bust my balls when I tried to sing my song about him so that, that's, you know, kind of harsh, it hurts, it hurts. Alicyn Well, you, I think you got the validation. Hope Thank you. Alicyn That you're, with Ginger joining the stream, so. Hope Yeah Ginger someday I will sing you the song. Alicyn Ginger, thank you. Hope Anyhow, thank you. Okay, well I'm going to do a sweet little mellow Song 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. Alicyn I'm just going to grab my water back there. Hope Please get your water I'm going to yak the yak, I'm gonna yak the yak so um, here's a song from my, my recent last, I can't believe it was a year ago, I came out with a CD called Far Sawrey, and I wrote a song, and it's actually I have a video, animated video to go with it and the animations but it. Alicyn I haven't seen it. Hope Did you see it? A poor little raccoon, poor little raccoon. It's really, the animation's amazing, this girl Cary McCool, amazing anyhow, so I'm gonna play my song, okay? Alicyn Okay. Hope Like, like anybody has a choice, they're here, okay. Hope (In song) Poor little raccoon Poor little raccoon He’s trying to capture the moon Poor little raccoon Poor little raccoon Poor little raccoon Went outside for a walk And fell in love with the moon He never ever really looked up before Looking for garbage at someone’s backdoor While a dog was chasing him across the street The full moon shown the way upon his feet Poor little raccoon Poor lovesick raccoon He's now in love with that moon Poor little raccoon He's so confused why he can't get close That moon keeps drifting away It smiles a smile just for him That raccoon's heart is wearing thin Poor little raccoon Poor lovesick raccoon He'll never get close to the moon He's in a perpetual swoon Oh why did he have to go and fall in love with the moon Alicyn So sweet. I love that one. Hope Inspired by a real raccoon in Laurel Canyon. So as I was driving down Laurel Canyon, I saw a little raccoon, you smell them usually, you don't always see them. And I was like, I don't know, whatever, you know. Alicyn We have a backyard visitor, he will come and, just we have an avocado tree and he comes down the, and he just like tears into the avocados. It's just chunks of fleshy avocado everywhere. I know. That was amazing. Hope, is that song on your Instagram? Hope Yes, it is. It is on my Instagram. Alicyn Okay great. I'll go, and I'll go to your page after, and I'll share it to my stories for everybody that wants to see it. Hope Thank you. Alicyn Make sure if you're not already following Hope, make sure to follow her. because she's always putting out music and lots of other good stuff. Hey RebStriker. Hey, Chris. Hey EarlyImaginationStudio. Thanks for everyone tuning in today. Hope Thanks guys. Alicyn A nice little intimate, intimate stream tonight. But I'm enjoying it. Promo Hey guys, this is Alicyn Packard. Sorry to interrupt, but I just wanted to let you know that if you like the show, please please please remember to subscribe to this podcast, and leave us a review on iTunes. It really helps us to get heard by more people. Thanks so much. Hope I know. I just this is really fun. Alicyn It's super fun. Hope It's fun to, I mean, you know, but like go back. Now this is what people used to do remember? Alicyn Yeah, except I would be like in real life. Hope Like in real life, what we used to do a year ago, so it's kind of nice. It's nice, thank you. Alicyn How nice. Awee. Thanks for the idea. Hope Thanks for inviting me, Alicyn. Alicyn Thanks for the idea. This is genius. I would like to do this more. So this next song I'm gonna play for you guys is called Cartwheels and it was off my latest album. It is a song just about coming into your own and having fun, because isn't that what life's about, right? Do a cartwheel. Alicyn (In song) Backstage at Busby’s Graffiti on the shelves We get all dressed up to be ourselves Flora’s doing make up I’m in good hands She’s the prettiest boy in the mission And we’re in demand I don’t need to look pretty Just want to be bolder Woman I am and the girl I was Together getting older Doing cartwheels through the air With my hands pressed in the earth I’ve been growing out of the need to hustle for my worth Not really sure who will step on stage But I know I’m not afraid to act my age To act my age Getting ready to take that leap of faith To spot a best efforts we’ve made all the mistakes Make it here before you is the only way to feel I don’t need you to like me Just have to be real So don’t bother hiding these flaws with concealer Learning to love that girl that I see in the mirror Doing cartwheels through the air With my hands pressed in the earth I’ve been growing out of the need to hustle for my worth Not really sure who will step on stage But I know I’m not afraid to act my age To act my age And now everyone’s on my side From where I started, it’s a different light Silhouettes of black and white, time stands still Born on the stage doesn’t mean that I’m here Just for you Cartwheels through the air With my hands pressed in the earth I’ve been growing out of the need to hustle for my worth Not really sure who will step on stage But I know I’m not afraid to act my age So we’ll cartwheel through the air With our hands pressed in the earth We've been growing out of the need to hustle for our worth Not really sure who will step on stage But we know we're not afraid to act our age To act our age Hope Oh, beautiful, Alicyn. Alicyn Thank you! Hope I was thinking of the last time I did a cartwheel. I don't remember. Alicyn Oh, really? Hope I think I need to, because I think I'm actually acting my age too much. So I need to actually go back a little, go back to the age that your song refers to, and try to see if I can even do a cartwheel. Alicyn Like my husband and I have been working on our handstands but. Hope I saw some of your stuff. Oh my god, you're an acrobat. Alicyn Oh the acro. Yeah, the acro but we're trying to do like, I mean, it's easier to do. Hey, Yasmin, it's good to see you. It's, it's easy like when someone's holding you up. It's sort of an inversion is a little easier. But um, you know, doing an actual handstand it takes a little work but yeah. Hope Yeah, I have to be supported with handstands, but, oh my gosh, but like, really supported, like, majorly support, five people, you know, holding me up. But I could get. Alicyn Seventeen people and a crane. Hope I saw a question, somebody asked about Sam, my son like, they asked why he isn't doing Rolly. So he did the role for a number of years. And you know, kids, their voices change, the boys. So his voice has changed. So he's still a part of it. But you know, he outgrew the role, you know? So anyhow, I'm just answering that question. Alicyn That is so hard. Hope It's hard for the kids, for the boys, you know. Alicyn And you were actually, I thought this was so interesting. I never knew that you were a child actress as well, in musical theater. Hope Yes, up in San Francisco. Alicyn You want to tell us about Éponine? Hope Oh, yeah. So well, so in San Francisco, I did a lot of, I performed live and with different singing group, and I also did lots of kids albums. And I was on a children's TV show. This is again in the Bay Area, Marion County, Northern California. It was like a little kid show where we would, it was called Just Kidding. And I used to interview other children and interesting. Yeah, it was really, it was so much fun, and we sang songs on it. But anyhow, but then I decided no, I want to be like a real actor, like a stage actress and I want to go to college and study theater. So when I graduated high school, I went to Cal Arts for one year, I was gonna go back, I took a leave of absence and then worked on a cruise ship. And then I came back from this cruise ship and I, I had auditioned three times in the cattle call lines back in the old days where you would like wait all day to audition for these open calls. And they were looking for people for the West Coast premiere of Les Miserables, oh my god, that was my dream, to play Éponine and it was a little green. You know, I like I remember, I when you wait like 14 hours in the cold outside, and you finally get to sing it like 6:30 at night, I was so emotional that I started to, I couldn't even sing, I actually could not sing. And I was so embarrassed because I was so excited and emotional that no song came out of me, and I was so humiliated. And then they're like, you really like this role. But I love it so much. I would love to do this part. Anyhow, he had me come back two more times to see if I had matured. And finally, a year into the show, it had been running in Los Angeles for a year. A year into the show, I, the third time was the charm. I auditioned and I got to understudy Éponine, and go on for her, and play the different, the chorus parts as well. So yeah, that was like my, that was such a great, amazing dream to play that role. I dream the dream. No, I didn't get to dream that dream, but I did, I dreamed on my own, on my own. So I did that. And then I was gonna go with the show on the road. And then I was like, no, I need to stay in LA and do like, try to get into television. And I really wanted to get into voiceover, and so I just decided to, to give up that show. But it was so, it was a great time of my life. So, six months of my life. It was wonderful. So, yeah. Alicyn Thank you for sharing that story. Hope Thank you asking. That's an old one. Alicyn Yeah, research. Hope Anyhow. Alicyn So, what are you gonna play for us next? Hope So I'm just gonna, again, like, I like to do fun songs. You know, I like to do the serious song, but I also like to have fun. Oh, gosh. And this song was inspired. I don't think it really needs much introduction, but I do have a video on this one as well. But it's kind of like my, I love animals even though I'm allergic to them. And sometimes I have a little bit of envy in this area. So that was inspired by envy. Okay, not, not from hatred. I love dogs, but it's more of like, um, they can do things that, you know, I can't, okay. Hope (In song) If I bring my own plastic bag Can take a dump on the sidewalk If I eat a turkey leg Can I bury it in the park I feel so demeaned When I am denied the right To use your facility When I have to pee Where do you go Dogs use a tree Oh, why does a dog have more rights than I A dog gets to walk on all fours But if I were to walk on all fours I’d be institutionalised And the dog gets to let its tongue hang on out But if I were to let mine hang on out I’d be crucified even though they don’t do that anymore A dog get a pat on the head throughout the day Can even see a dog given the right of way And dogs never wait in line Oh, why does a dog have more rights than I Oh, why does a dog have more rights than I I feel so demeaned When I am denied the right To lick a total stranger’s hand When I feel delight Dogs jump on people all the time Oh, why does a dog have more rights than I Oh, why does a dog have more rights than I It’s true that a dog has more rights than I Oh, why (x11) does a dog have more rights than I Hope Use the voice you created. Alicyn I love your deep dog voice as well, I don't expect that coming out of petite little Hope. Hope That comes out of voiceover classes, numerous voiceover classes, and studying animals. Alicyn That's great. Hope Thank you. Alicyn Oh, well, you went light-hearted, I think I'm going to go light hearted too. Hope Yeah, I think you need to. Alicyn You know, so back in the day before our phones were loaded with emojis, and guys, thank you so much for all the emoji love. Hope Thank you. Alicyn Before there was emojis, when you would text someone on your flip phone? It's not that old. But yeah, you would have to like type in the emoji and I was dating this guy and he would text me colon and parentheses. And I was like, what is that? Like, I thought it was boobies. I was like, why does this guy keep texting me boobies. But actually, you know there's, so it was like, it was the less than and a three, it looks like a, and I was like what? And it means a heart. And so I wrote this song about that and more. Alicyn (In Song) Less than three Less than three You always send me texts that say less than three Even though I no longer rent space in your heart Less than three Less than three One less makes the two of us But two less leaves me And its been, oh, so lonely Since we’ve been apart Think of all the places we could have gone together With you right by my side Making sure we stay a thousand feet from clock cover As we sore like birds in the sky Cause in your piper things look brighter Less than three Less than three You still sign your messages with less than three Even though I no longer rent space in your heart Think of all the places we could have flown together With me right by your side I’d hold you in the sunshine and even stormy weather Which is what we say when we have a fight Stormy weather, it just sounds better Than saying one of us cried Oh, less than three Less than three You still sign your messages with less than three Even though I no longer rent space in your heart But you say I’ll always own space in your heart Hope Oh, that's so sweet. I love it. Yay. That's a good one. Alicyn Awee, thank you. Hope That's clever. Alicyn Oh, thank you. Hope That goes with my Back In My Day, kind of, except now, that's like even slightly past my song, you know? It's like, it's the next level. Alicyn Yeah, less than three. Hope Updatedness, updatedness. Alicyn Yeah, you don't need it anymore. I know you, don't even need it anymore. Hope I still like to do a dot, dot, and a happy end like that, you know? Alicyn Yeah. Hope I still sometimes just feel that, you know? Alicyn It's vintage Hope It's vintage, vintage emojis. Alicyn It's like, it's old school here look, less than three. Hope I don't. I don't know where to look. Alicyn I typed it. I typed it into the. Hope Oh, there it is. See? I don't know how to multitask what you're doing it's like, okay, that's so sweet. Yeah. Alicyn Well, I know we had planned on four. Hope That was four, wasn't it? Alicyn But, what do you think? Do you have an encore? Hope Wait a minute, wasn't that four? I did four. You, wait a minute. Wait a minute. Hold on a second, I did four, you did four. Alicyn We did four. Yup, do you want to do an encore before we wrap it up? We have a couple more minutes. Hope Oh my God. Alicyn Am I putting you on the spot? Why don't I ask you a question? Hope No, no, no, I kinda, you know, again, as we were discussing here, behind the scenes. We both have like, no, I could do one. I could do another. I could do my song that I wrote for my dear. So when I, when I started. Alicyn James Platten said encore. Hope Hi. Hi, cousin David. Okay. I just kind of practiced it, just in case. Um, so when I did Voice Actors Network when I started it years, again, I was Gosh, when was it, 10, it was like 11 years ago, I started, I had this idea of, oh my gosh, I want to do like workshops, casting director workshops for working actors who, you know, working voice actors, and you were, that's where I met you. And my best friend used to accompany me. You remember my friend, Carolyn? Alicyn Yeah. Hope My dearest friend, Carolyn Susi, she would go I want to go just for the friendship. Like she would just go and you know, she loved it. Alicyn Did she go into voice? She wasn't doing voiceover at the time? Hope Well, she everybody was like, your voice is too gruff. She's like, this is what, you know, that's what she does, that's who she is. She's a Brooklyn girl. And then she got on, of course, The Big Bang Theory, which my son, Sam and I drove her to her audition, because she didn't drive. She was a New Yorker at heart. So we drove her to her audition, and her callback. So we helped her get the job of Mrs. Wolowitz on The Big Bang Theory. Anyhow. Alicyn That's amazing. Hope Yeah, it's pretty cool. Alicyn You get credit. Hope So I think we should get credit, anyhow. So when she passed away, sadly, um, I wrote this song about her. So not everybody, so I don't know if you, no, you probably haven't heard, so I'm gonna just do a song about her, is that all right? Is that cool? Alicyn Yeah, okay. That's great, thank you. Hope And there is like, you know, there's details about her week. She was known for, she loved to cook and everything was revolved around food. Okay, it doesn't matter. It's in the song. (In song) She was a son of a gun A pistol of fun A seeker of truth Never married no one Brooklyn girl left us way too soon To go on all the rides Confidant and a true blue friend But she’d cast you out if you were late or cancelled dinner plans Flexibility? didn’t understand Piss her off and you’d get the wrath And you didn’t want the wrath The wrath was for nothing that you said or did was right She’d turned into a bully in the kitchen, what a sight It must have been the stress Or the pots and pans mess Culinary god with an iron fist You took her abuse, the food’s so delish And in the moment of feasting you forgot your crass Small price to pay for getting her wrath Well quiet wasn’t used to describe our friend With her wild black hair and chubby fat hands Red lipstick smile, the voice kinda gruff A kitten inside, though she sounded more tough She was a son of a gun A pistol of fun Always there to help someone Didn’t drive, was always on time Don’t be late or you get the wrath And you didn’t want the wrath The wrath, the wrath when nothing that you said or did was right It must have been the stress Or the pots and pans mess Cookienutter house prepared you for battle And everything seems to make a feather batter Asking to add more salt or clean up bread was a fault Well I wonder who she’s giving the wrath to in heaven A piece of her mind to Darren McGavin Putting Julia Child in her place That cosmic kitchen ain’t enough space She was a son of a gun A pistol of fun Always there to help someone A spiritual bunny so damn funny Come and time me was her riff She loved to over tip She was a son of a gun Oh, son of a gun But only brave ones could handle the wrath Only brave ones could handle the wrath Only us brave ones could handle her wrath Love Carolyn (x5) You know I love you Did you see I waved. Alicyn Awee. Hope So that last bit of, from Jesus Christ Superstar, that's an homage to her because she had audition for the movie of Jesus Christ Superstar, but she was a comedian so, of course she did it really funny, the song in there, that the story is like they loved her but they said you know if it wasn't, if it was a comedy, she would have been in it but anyhow, so yeah, anyway. Alicyn Thank you for sharing that. Hope Thanks. All right, Alicyn. Alicyn I guess I'll play us out on one last one. Hope Bring us on home, Alicyn. Alicyn Funny it was, the song that I was planning to play is called Elsfield, and it was, the person who inspired this song has also passed away. Hope Aw, perfect. Alicyn Like you and I are kind of tuning into, Hope people we miss. Alicyn Something greater. Ginger knows. Hope Awee, thanks. Alicyn (In song) We lay down on the tarmac at Elsfield That sleepy time wine had caught you again You shuffle to bed and I’m left there with my questions It’s been known to happen every now and then But I wanna breathe you in, so deep And all that I have to give, is all that you need Breathe in, just breathe in It’s an action I can handle If I breathe in the stars I could breathe all the light into dark Remembering those summers back on the East Coast When the sky is so wide that you swear you can see the seas on But I wanna breathe you in, so deep And all that I have to give, is all that you need Yeah, I wanna hold you close But you are not here The silence can replace the words that I wanna keep Yeah, I wanna breathe you in, so deep There’s so much to share but instead I love you sweet We lay down at the tarmac at Elsfield Hope Oh my God. I'm crying. That was so good. It was beautiful. Alicyn Thank you, honey. Hope It was so good. Alicyn Look at your eyes. Hope I can't, my glasses, it's all blurry. It's too close, the camera, I need it farther back, but I couldn't, I couldn't get it farther back and then you know, whatever. So, I'm sorry. Alicyn No, I like your glasses. Hope Oh, they help. Alicyn They're there for a reason. It is, it is, it is a very intimate experience doing a music show with somebody on Instagram because it's like, we're just like, it's you and me and the audience. Hope It's so cool, though. It's really fun. It keeps, I mean, it got my, it got me playing again. Because I've been doing a lot of stuff on GarageBand, I've been doing all this more electronic kind of music. I'm like going into different areas. So I'm like playing a lot of other totally different stuff and recording that, but my, I'm kind of, I've been rusty, you know, with the playing. That's a whole other thing, right? Alicyn Blame it on the global pandemic. Hope I'm blaming it on something. Yeah. Alicyn Well, I mean, do you think we should let everybody know about our little project, we have working on? Hope Oh, oh, yeah. Yeah, we were gonna do a song together, right? Alicyn Yeah, yeah, yeah. Hope I mean, a cover, a cover. So. Alicyn Yeah, we're covering a Beatles song. Hope Yeah. So they'll just, we'll just when we do it. Alicyn I'm not that common with that Beatles song. Hope It's not. That's why I picked it. Alicyn It's not that common. I actually have never heard of it. Hope Yeah. I mean, it's an old Beatles song. So when, when you post it or whenever we do, then you'll know. Alicyn Yeah, yeah. Hope I'm excited, I get to work with you again. Alicyn Yeah, so stay tuned for that and Hope and I'll be singing together. I'm so grateful to everybody that tuned in live. I know some of you were just tuning in now, we're about to sign off, but I will go ahead and post the replay right away. And yeah, it'll be available, you guys can zoom through the previous songs if you missed them. Our guest tonight by the way is Hope Levy. Hope is a singer songwriter as well as very, very talented voice actors. An interesting fact about Hope Levy, she was the deer in Jordan Peele's Academy Award winning, Get Out. Hope Yes. The deer that's on the wall. I made some, I mean not the dear on the wall. I'm sorry, God, look, I was the deer that got hit when they, in the beginning. Spoiler alert if you haven't seen it, so I had to make some crazy, sad, crying deer sounds so. Alicyn That's amazing, you know. Hope That was a challenge, so. Alicyn Yeah. Well, thanks for coming on the show tonight, Hope. Hope Thanks for having me, Alicyn. Alicyn You're welcome. Hope I adore you. I love you. You're so amazing as well. Your talent is just like, you know, incredible. And thanks, everybody for watching. Alicyn Thank you guys for watching live. We'll see you next week. Oh, I should mention, because this is very cool. Next week's guest is Rob Paulsen. And we're gonna have a St. Patrick's Day party. And I think we're even going to do, we might do giveaways. So be sure to tune in next week. Rob Paulsen is amazing. And if you have not read his book yet, it is really a tell all and it is so good. Rob, actually one of the top voice actors of our generation and got throat cancer and his story is just, one of such triumph. He's always been the type of person that just lights up any room and offers so much gratitude. And the book, I had a conversation with him I was like in tears this week just being completely inspired by him. So I hope you guys tune in next week. Wear green or don't, it's just Instagram. But yeah, I hope you guys tune in, the audio book is even better, Jeff says. Yeah, I'm reading the book-book, but I should get the audiobook to. So definitely check it out Hope if you haven't yet. Hope I will thank you. Alicyn And, and we'll see you guys next with Rob Paulsen. Hope Bye, everybody. Alicyn Bye. Thank you, Hope. Hope Thanks, Alicyn.
