Mark Evanier - Writer/Producer - Garfield | S2 AW 56

This week on Alicyn’s Wonderland, I sit down with legendary comic book and animation writer, Mark Evanier. Join us as we journey down the rabbit hole and through the looking glass into the wild and wonderful world of animation, comic books, and of course SD COMIC-CON!!!

Mark is one of the six people in the world to have attended EVERY Comic-Con event since its inception in 1970 and he’s definitely got a ton of amazing stories to share!

In this episode, Mark walks us through his unconventional career path, where he started as an apprentice to legendary comic book writer and visionary, Jack Kirby, before moving on to writing TV sitcoms, to writing comics for and eventually running the Hanna-Barbera comics division. He also regales us with his storied history as the writer of the beloved CBS animated series, Garfield and Friends.

Mark also shares with us how San Diego Comic-Con began as well as how he made it an even bigger event by including voice actors on his panels. Finally, we also talk about the changes he’s seen at Comic-Con over the years and what to expect in the future.
