Max Mittelman is one of the most talented VOs I’ve ever known. In my opinion, he has become a household name in the anime industry. It’s no surprise that he can land roles like Saitama from One Punch Man, King from Seven Deadly Sins, Hikari from A Lull In The Sea, and so much more. This week’s guest is none other than Arlo’s creator, Ryan Crego. Ryan is an amazing artist and an incredible songwriter, as he proves so with Arlo. He started his journey through the world of animation by working on, probably, a more familiar name, Shrek. With Arlo being in the making for over 11 years, you know Ryan’s got a lot to tell.

What is the most fascinating thing about cartoons? Is it the animation, the characters, or are the voices behind the characters the most important part? I guess we can all agree it’s a little bit of everything. We’ve talked about the creation of animated films, the experience of voiceover artists, and the magic behind storyboarding. But have you ever heard of ADRs and loop groups?

To tell you more about this interesting aspect of film and animation, we turn to industry veteran Terri Douglas. Terri, if you don’t know her yet, is one of the most amazing people you will ever meet in the world of animation. She has voiced numerous characters, she cast hundreds of ADRs and loop groups, and she has started her own ADR voice company. She has experience on top of the experience. After personally working with her in one of her loop groups, I can say with confidence that she is one you need to listen to. Luckily for us, she talks about everything in this episode of Alicyn’s Wonderland.

Monica Lago-Kaytis, CEO and producer at Frogbot Films, talks to us about her new venture as co-founder of Rise Up Animation.

Rise Up Animation is all about giving the members of the BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) community an equal chance at a career in animation. This is especially relevant now, as the pandemic has caused even more hate against our brothers and sisters of color. Monica, together with 3 other co-founders, established this nonprofit organization to offer free advice, portfolio and resume feedback, and even mentorship.
